Shopping for dad should be fun.

June 12, 2022

Socks, ties, mugs – aka, the only Father’s Day gifts for hundreds of years. I guess we all thought, men have money and power, they don’t need great gifts too. Or maybe we wanted to spend our babysitting money on froyo and Clearasil instead. Bottom line, our time is precious and shopping for socks and ties is boring. These are a few options I really like for dads…

Yeti Backpack Cooler

This Hopper M20 Backpack Soft Cooler is light (it weighs less than 5 pounds) and it keeps everything cold for hours, possibly days. It also holds a lot (up to 18 beer cans). With young kids, it’s usually easier and less expensive to bring lunch, plus, dad can be hands-free.

American Giant Sweatshirt

This Classic Full Zip sweatshirt is so soft and well-structured – it looks amazing on my husband. Men who live in a climate like northern CA will never take this off. It also comes in a lot of great colors. I bought my husband the black, but forest camo seems fun.

Brooklinen Heathered Cashmere Sheets

Boy oh boy, these Heathered Cashmere Sheets are so comfy cozy. Cool sheets can be soothing on a hot night, but super soft sheets feel so nice against your skin. They are expensive, but Brooklinen has lots of sales and you accrue points that translate into discounts.

Becketts Simonon Leather Shoes

These Dunham Derbie shoes are classic and comfortable. The price point is very reasonable for full-grain calfskin leather that continues to soften and develop more of a patina as time goes on. My husband’s look better now than they did a year ago.

Freshly Meal Delivery Gift Card

I’ve tried Thistle, Nurture Life and Freshly meal delivery services. I like them all, but Freshly meals heat up perfectly and last the longest. They also have a variety of low-carb meals that are really good, like the Cauliflower Shell Beef Bolognese. Also, there’s no prep – you just open the meal and pop it in the microwave.

Dandelion Chocolate Three-Bar Gift Set

This gift set is such a treat. The flavors are so unique and delicious probably because the company has such high standards (it’s all single-origin, two-ingredient chocolate). The bars have great descriptions and tasting notes on each one, which is fun, and the set is beautifully wrapped.

Smitten Ice Cream Gift Kit

Smitten ice cream is churned to order, so it’s insanely creamy and decadent. It’s the best ice cream I’ve ever eaten by far. You can send 6 pints for $79 or a gift kit for $65 with 4 pints, cookie dough chunks and a card. The gift kit packaging and card are really cute, which I know because I sent the gift kit to myself.

Dearborn Denim

I can’t believe these jeans are under $100. They look expensive and include everything you want in a jean, like a variety of washes, plenty of stretch and the ideal fit.

Goodr “Going to Valhalla…Witness!” Sunglasses

I have 17 pairs of sunglasses, but I confiscated my husband’s Goodr sunglasses because they’re light, comfortable and polarized. I wear them in the car, so I have no idea how they look on me, but they look great on him. And most pairs are just $25.

Funny Books You Can Skim Versus Read

These books are comedy gold – I flip through them every once in a while and they never disappoint: Awkward Family Photos, F in Exams: The Very Best Totally Wrong Test Answers, and It’s A Magical Word: A Calvin and Hobbes Collection.
