Give mom something good.

April 27, 2022

Every mom on this planet deserves an annual month-long retreat at Esalen. We really do. But until that happens, we should at least get something we actually want for Mother’s Day. Here are a few ideas for all the amazing moms and mother figures in our lives.

Rails Kellen PJs

These Rails PJs are cute, comfy, and perfect for summer weather especially if you get warm when you sleep (like me). Other perks: the texture is soft and silky, the shorts have an elastic waist (with an adjustable drawstring), and the shirt and shorts hang loosely for a flattering fit.

Yeti Wine Tumbler

These ten-ounce Wine Tumblers can hold a small or hefty pour. They’re not spill-proof, but your drink is safe from bugs, and it’ll stay at a consistent, cooler temp. The tumblers are dishwasher safe and take broken glass out of the equation.

Sterling Silver 3.0 Zirconia Stud Earrings

These “diamond” studs are gorge and under $40. They are a noticeable size (I’m usually in sweats so I like adding a little luxe), the backing feels secure, and they’re very easy to get on and off. I’ve lost a lot of jewelry, so I love that these look expensive without the risk.

Tesalate Beach Towel

Advertised as sand-free beach towels, I can attest that they really are. They’re absorbent, full-sized, quick-drying, and have cute patterns on both sides. If you like a plush beach towel these probably aren’t for you, but they are soft and pack down into nothing.

LL Bean Open-top Boat and Tote

I have at least of six of these. I’m a fan of the extra-large with long handles, so I can throw it over a shoulder. You can add a monogram up to ten characters for an extra $8 (I love adding a fun word). I take them grocery shopping and to the beach and park, and my daughter takes one to preschool.

Cheese Gift Box

Cowgirl Creamery cheese is unparalleled — it’s SO good. Most of the gift boxes come with delicious local accompaniments (crackers, meats, honey, chocolate), and all include “Suggested Pairings” (including wine, beer, and a non-alcoholic option). This is truly the ultimate gift.

Audible subscription

I can listen to books much more easily than I can read them, and some of the narrators are fabulous. If you’d rather gift a book than a subscription, try these great reads: The Girl in the Mirror (Rose Carlyle), We’re Going to Need More Wine (Gabrielle Union), The Adults: A Novel (Caroline Hulse), Life Will Be the Death of Me:…And You Too! (Chelsea Handler), Class Mom: A Novel (Laurie Gelman).

Poco Dulce

These Bittersweet Chocolate Tiles are my absolute favorite chocolates — perfectly proportioned and just the most delicious dark chocolate finished with sea salt. The Burnt Caramel is my go-to, but they are all divine.

Bose SoundSport Wireless Bluetooth Headphones

Sometimes you just need to dance, and these in-ear headphones stay in place even when I’m shimmying around. They’re comfortable to wear for hours and small enough to stick in a pocket, so they’re great for working out, travel, and just being on-the-go.

Cashmere Cardigan

This sweater is expensive, but you’ll own it forever. I’ve had mine for over a decade. It’s the perfect layer for hot or cold — you can add a scarf and a jacket on top or just throw it over a tee. It’s so comfy, cozy, and so chic.
